Commision Sieg Lady Maaka by Kanadesonya Commision Sieg Lady Maaka by Kanadesonya
Commision for :iconlady-maaka: who has been waiting for this for several months, hope this turned out right although you can see that i made a few mistakes but it was sort of a complex sort of picture so coloring took a long time. But i am pretty content on how it turned out.
Medium:Mech Pencil,Sakura Micron Pen,Prismacolor Pencil
Description:She has asked me to draw Sieg from Chaos Legion the theme was supposingly magic, and if possible a soft side i was probably unable to take on the soft theme but I managed to take on the magic theme if you can see closely the left side[to me] of his cloak which was orignally plain is darker colors representing a dragon while on the right side[well im no good with telling sides apart]it is brighter representing pheonix.I thought it would be kind of cool to switch on to a different fashion instead and the finishing touches were the sword which i re-done and the background which is the hardest but first timer here and i have a hard time with the shading but hope lady maaka enjoys it for she has been waiting for so long.

This is a fabulously ambitious piece of work, with linework all over the place. Not in a bad way - every line is where it should be - but what immediately hits me about it is the wonderful level of detail. Props for being able to do that with such competance!

I like the way you've used colour in some parts but not others. It realy brings out the richness of the rainbow part and the quality of the red hair. One little thing I'd say is that I think the picture would improve with bolder use of the colours. Not more colour, just to be stronger where you have put it.

There's only one other thing I'd say in terms of critique, and that's the composition. I find that if a character is at the dead-centre of the picture then that can make the whole thing feel oversimplified. I think that linework as brilliant as yours deserves a bit more movement, and different composition would achieve that. Perhaps to have the character a bit to the side, or turning to look up at the stained glass.

The character's clothing is marvellous and I find the flames on his left hand side to be particularly eye-catching. They're well-done!

Compared to the lineart of yours for which I gave feedback last time, this is much clearer! It's not only about the colors but also that the character uses much more darher colors than the background. I like that the amount of details in the coat, yet the coat looks clear as you kept blues on one side and reds on another -- the wholeness is thus in good control! (Not 100% sure if you said the coat design is yours. The character at least isn't, but on the other hand, I didn't find that coat in Google...)

Colors are used well, and they clarify the construction of the image well and makes it easier to tell apart the main subject. The only thing that pokes my eye in the color composition is the yellow area in the sword. There is otherwise just blacks, blues and reds on the character! The yellow area looks a bit weird that's why :'D Maybe that could be balanced by adding more yellow to somewhere else?

The previous feedback giver mentioned composition in this artwork. Indeed, putting a character middle of the picture and just putting the background portrayed from eye level is a bit dull. Maybe a bit more interesting take for the background could be using frog perspective? Then the character would look biiiiiiig and mighty and powerful >:D *says a person who often portrays her character from that PoV and is hyper lazy with backgrounds*

But what sort of pokes my eye is the lack of contrast (I know, again, color pencils are hard what comes to producing powerful colors!). Since you used a color palette consisting of a few, bright colors (bright blue, bright red, solid black etc), but especially the grayness of the black areas do such a disservice for the drawing. Again, Brightness&Contrast tool could be really helpful :) Or trying other techniques, like wide, good markers (like ProMarkers or Copics, I use ProMarkers). Actually, markers are excellent for high-contrast works! :D I love them.

Summa summarum: The construction of the drawing has improved and it is easier to "read" than your previous work. You use a respectable amount of details, and improvement of the "readability" of the picture serves them better. However, better contrasts could really bring out the colors. :)
